The World Health Organization and the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) report a cholera outbreak — declared on 27 June 2026 — spreading across the Darfur and Kordofan regions, with confirmed and suspected cases in South, North and West Darfur and North and West Kordofan.
WHO has warned that the rainy season, together with shortages of clean water and medicines, raises the risk of further transmission, and has urged scaled-up water, sanitation and vaccination measures.
